My original model had the same mounting head. However, if the identical old model was not available I would have purchased the new SLIK model because I like the features that allow me to tilt and pan with the head ithe camera is mounted on. I noticed the new model has 3 quick-clip extensions, mine has only two, which means the newer model is 3 inches shorter at it's shortest length but 6 inches longer with fully extended but that did not make it worth more to me. I could have purchased the new version for 3x the price available on eBay, but why should I when this one is perfect and like brand new when it arrived. I had many choices and to my delight there were 3 identical to my original.
It's particularly handy for holding my video camera study. I've had this identical product for more than 20 years. Until you own a SLIK monopod you can't imagine how handy it will be
